THE ACORN

In 1989 I was commissioned to paint 40 officers of the Life Guards at Windsor Barracks. The painting took me approximately a year to complete. Because the Regiment was never collectively together, Major James Hewitt was sequested to help organise the numerous sittings and the attire of the individual Officers.

James Hewitt had two major assignments that year, one was to help me with the painting and the second was to teach Princess Diana how to ride a horse. He was reputedly the best horse man in the regiment.

On complition of the painting , Col. James Ellary commissioned me to paint the Colnel in Chief of the Regiment. Major General Lord Michael Fitz Alan Howard. This was to be his gift to the Regiment on relinquishing command.
